Never Inside the Box

By way of 13 all-star percussionists and 1 stunning South Indian classical singer, the Outside the Box 2015 festival began this evening. The festival commissioned me to create an original 15 minute piece to initiate the opening ceremony. The piece started with a tam-tam drone (thanks for the instruments, Zildjian!), sparkles of crotale tones, and Deetpi's voice soaring over it all. We explored our drums with spurts of rhythmic activity, four-on-the-floor, and a canonic groove passed through the entire ensemble. I was overjoyed to work with such an amazing team of musicians, in addition to the wonderful folks from the festival! Thanks to all that made this happen! Lastly, thanks to Adam for taking such great pics of the event!
